Golden Isles Community Sailing Center Programs
Basic sailing for 8-12 year olds with little or no sailing experience. The class starts at the dock where kids become acquainted with the Optimist sailboat and safety rules. Sailors are introduced to rigging, steering and sail controls, and instructed in points of sail. Then they move to the water where they learn to tack and gybe and sail around a course.
For the intermediate sailor looking to get more experience sailing and racing an Opti. This class focuses on advanced sailing skills including boat handling, mark rounding, and an introduction to sailboat racing.
(Must have basic sailing experience. Younger sailors usually need two weeks of beginner Opti sailing before taking on this class.)
High School Sailing is the fastest growing aspect of junior sailboat racing, and for good reason; it’s totally co-ed, social, and simple enough for new sailors to get involved. Our High School Training Camp will prepare sailors for the scholastic racing experience in Club 420 dinghies. Beginners and more experienced sailors will practice working as both skipper and crew, and will become familiar with popular high school practice drills such as "tack on the whistle" and "rabbit starts", while also getting a head start on the basics of divisional and team racing regatta formats.
Private lessons are also available, see flyer
